Fiberglass Planters can be made at many quality levels. Lower quality fiberglass planters that sometimes look like ours are only for use as display and most often seen at garden centers. We sell our products directly to professional landscape trade and volume users for projects. We did learn that when you offer products to retailers they expect low prices and that means lower quality. We realized long ago that if the planters were not made correctly to commercial quality they could not hold up as long as we had hoped. We stopped selling to retailers and now produce only higher quality planters for use in commercial applications. We have developed a direct from our China factory method to distribute our products to cut costs and overhead. We can offer our planters of a much higher quality and a lower price then the copycat companies you may have seen in Canada or California. Often the products look the same but it's how they are made that matters down the road.
In I977 Claycraft fiberglass containers was founded. The original concept was to distribute it's own designs of outdoor planters through development of specialty manufacturing processes that resulted in higher end decorative planters and floral containers. Less then a decade later Claycraft had invented a unique FRP or Fiberglass Reinforced Polyester with real bronze finish on planters to be used outdoors in any weather. The research continues today with higher and higher quality products being our most important goal. Claycraft is involved in the manufacture of large scale sidewalk planters for cities all over the world. In this capacity Claycraft must
produce planters that hold up over time and the same quality is applied to all of our products. Please don't be fooled by similar copies made for the big box stores. Not all fiberglass planters are the same. Strength and quality in fiberglass planters is hidden from view within the layers of glass and resin. We manufacture for professionals not for retailers who buy based on cost.
PRODUCT ISSUES:
1Q. WHAT ABOUT DRAINAGE HOLES IN PLANTERS?
1A. DRAINAGE: ALL PLANTERS THAT WILL BE LEFT OUTDOORS SHOULD HAVE DRAINAGE HOLES. THIS SERVICE CAN BE PROVIDED SIMPLY BY ASKING.
2Q. CAST IRON COLOR: DOES IT STAIN THE AREA IT'S IN CONTACT WITH?
2A. YES! PLANTERS MADE IN THE CAST IRON FINISH WILL HAVE SOME AMOUNT OF LEACHING OF THE "REAL IRON" COLOR ONTO THE FLOOR SURFACE WHERE THEY ARE PLACED. IF THIS IS AN ISSUE FOR YOU, PLEASE PURCHASE ANOTHER COLOR.
3Q. CAN YOUR PRODUCT CHIP OR CRACK?
3A. YES! CARE: FIBERGLASS PLANTERS ARE STRONG AND DURABLE PROVIDED THEY ARE NOT MISHANDLED BEFORE THEY ARE PLACED AND PLANTED INTO. AS WITH ALL VALUABLE ITEMS, CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN IN MOVING AND HANDLING YOUR PRODUCTS TO KEEP THEM BEAUTIFUL AND USEFUL INDEFINITELY. FIBERGLASS (AKA/ FIBER REINFORCED PLASTIC) IS A BONDABLE MATERIAL, MEANING EASILY REPAIRABLE.
4Q. IF THEY CHIP, STRATCH OR CRACK CAN THEY BE REPAIRED?
4A. YES! REPAIR: IF YOUR FIBERGLASS SHOULD EVER CHIP, SCRATCH, OR DEVELOP A CRACK, IT CAN BE FIXED. FIBERGLASS PRODUCTS ARE COMPOSED OF POLYESTER RESIN, WHICH IS CHEMICALLY SIMILAR TO EPOXY RESIN. EPOXY WILL BOND TO OUR PLANTERS AND IS AVAILIBLE IN EVERY HARDWARE STORE. PURCHASE A SMALL TUBE OF EPOXY, PLUMBERS PUTTY OR BONDO ( PREMIXED WITH FILLER, EASY TO MOLD). . COLOR CAN BE MIXED WITH THE EPOXY TO BETTER MATCH THE COLOR OF THE ITEM YOU OWN. LARGE HOLES WILL REQUIRE BACKING IN ORDER FOR THE EPOXY TO ADHERE TO MORE EASILY. USE A SMALL AMOUNT OF EPOXY OR GLUE TO THE INSIDE EDGES OF THE HOLE AND PUT INTO THE HOLE A PIECE OF FIBERGLASS OR ANY PIECE OF CLOTH, EVEN CARDBOARD OR LAYERS OF TAPE TO CREATE A BACKING TO HOLD THE EXPOXY MATERIAL UNTIL IT DRIES. THE REPAIR MAY REQUIRE MULTIPLE LAYERS OF EPOXY UNTIL IT IS EVEN WITH THE ORIGINAL SURFACE. LIGHT SANDING BETWEEN LAYERS WILL MAKE A STRONGER BOND. ONCE THE SURFACE IS EQUAL TO OR ABOVE THE ORIGINAL SURFACE THEN SAND SMOOTH WITH HIGHER # SANDPAPER.
5Q. CAN I FIX OR CORRECT A BLEMISH?
5A. MOST OF THE TIME! BLEMISH REMOVAL: GLOSS METALIC SURFACES CAN BE POLISHED WITH METAL POLISH OR USING #00 STEEL WOOL. REMOVE SMALL BLEMISES ON SLATE GRAY BY WASHING OR SANDING WITH LIGHT SAND PAPER #160. CAST IRON CAN BE RUBBED WITH A STIFF RAG OR LIGHT STEELWOOL. RUST FINISH CAN BE REMOVED, SO WORK CAREFULLY. RUST WILL RETURN TO RECENTLY RUBBED SURFACES WITHIN A FEW WEEKS. |
